For a nation with such a small population , Australia has a long list of sporting success. Look at any major world sport today and you can be sure that Australia has a foot in it, they may not perhaps be the best nation in the world at everything but you can bet your bottom dollar they’re planning world domination!. Detractors may immediately mention association football as their downfall, always the butt of jokes made by Brits on Australia holidays, but it’s important to bear in mind that the Oz soccer initiative has only recently gathered steam, the domestic league has only been around a few years and it will take time before real quality comes through the youth system. Considering this Australia’s record in World Cups doesn’t seem quite so bad.
Annoyingly for us they tend to excel at the traditionally British pursuits of Rugby and Cricket, transported to Oz in the 1880′s as a result of colonization, those down under have taken such sports under their wings, excelled at them, and, frustratingly, often beaten Brits at our own game! Add to this the fact that Australia has its very own raft of homegrown sports such as Aussie rules football and you have a country with an impressive sporting profile! If you were to do a Fly drive Australia tour you’d no doubt come across hundreds of sporting stars
Aussie talent is really beginning to shine through in the motorsport arena as well with straight talking Mark Webber currently leading the Forumla One world championship and Will Power excelling in American IndyCar! The Aussies are really excelling in motorsport at the moment to with Mark Webber currently leading the Forumla One world championship and Will Power excelling in American IndyCar. What is it then that makes the Aussies a nation with such sporting prowess as well as being able to host great Australia cruises? Perhaps it’s the wide open spaces and ease of access to facilities, both geographically or economically, it could also be down to the more considered sport in schools agenda. Whatever the reason, it’s clear the UK has some catching up to do!
