How Different Countries See The Cottage

It is safe to say that each country across the world sees the word cottage as a slightly different way of doing things. For examples those Sussex cottages may not mean the same thing to the guys living in the states and this is because they see the term cottage differently. So how to other countries see the term cottage and why do they see it in this way?

USA

Basically in North America it seems that cottages are seen more as weekend or summer getaways for the people that are working hard in the cities rather than what they are here in the UK, actual places to live. Of course when the people are not in the cottages they will rent them out to foreign tourists and this makes a lot of sense because it is a great way of making a lot of money during the course of the year.

It would seem that although Canadian cottages are very similar to this they are always found near water or a forested area. these are again are used as holiday homes and it is so the family can spend some real quality time together. The ones that are of a seasonal type are called cabins rather than cottages.

Finland

In Finland the format is very similar to what you would find in the states but they are traditionally built of logs but of course nowadays other kinds of wooden constructions have been used. most of them will have saunas in them and will be located around water.

These are only two of the main kinds of cottages that you will find across the world, if you were looking into a British cottage like West Sussex Cottages you will find them to be very different in the way they are used and the way that they are built. This is the same across the board.
