Should Travel Insurance Cover For A Death In The Family?

The big question people want clarified is whether or not travel insurance is going to consider a death in the family a reason to use trip cancellation. It could be a sudden death, but even when someone has been ill or a cancer patient, there is really no way to be sure when someone is going to go.

The main element here is what travel insurance is made for; the unforeseen. Travel insurance works similarly with other insurance. Insurance primarily exists for you in case something ever does happen. Every insurance company has clauses that point out what they will cover and what they wont. You just need to ask about it once you call the insurance company. Usually in the event that it is an immediate family member, that will work. If you call the insurance company and let them know your sister-in-laws mother died then you would probably know their answer to that. They most probably wont cover for it since they dont consider it as a hardship for you. Be sure to consider this when you are shopping for cheap travel insurance, whether it is just travel health insurance or something like annual family travel insurance.

CSA Travel, states that their policy will cover you if you die, or a family member and even a traveling companion. It may not be true for all companies which means you better ask before purchasing a policy if they would also cover for your traveling companion.

Other companies only cover for you or your immediate family and some provide you with accidental death policy which would be of use while traveling. This should also be included in your list of questions to ask the insurance company. This is a great policy to get along with your regular disability policy if you have one either with your employer, or one that is transferrable but is with a company they signed up with. But, this policy may not cover for you while traveling.
