Things That Can Go Wrong With An Overseas Holiday

A Staycation in the UK is becoming a cheap and popular alternative to the drawn-out process required to ferry yourself and a family abroad. The weather notwithstanding, there are a number of advantages to remaining in good ol Blighty. To start with, theres the whole issue of currency. The advantages in exchange rates that once made international travel so popular are fast being eroded as the pound slips in value against other currencies. You also pay no exchange rates or fees, and there will never be a question of your plastic not working as any of your UK credit cards will be recognised and you wont be charged a premium if you need to take out cash.

Then theres the travel. You can reach almost anywhere in the UK in a few hours, by road, rail or air. International flight times may seem comparable but that doesnt include having to turn up at an airport hours before check-in, negotiating a crowded terminal, waiting in a sequence of tedious queues and then going through much the same on the other end. In effect your holiday is shortened by two days due to the time, aggravation and preparation needed to get through the travel process.

In the worst case scenario, nothing is more expensive or depressing than being stranded abroad, away from your family and friends. During the volcanic ash disruption this year, many found themselves preyed upon by hoteliers charging astronomical rates for extended stays, needing to apply for credit card limit increases, having already maxxed out on holiday expenses. Package firms have been in trouble recently too, with some going bust and leaving people to foot yet more costs to get back home.

There are some lovely locations in the UK. There isnt an activity adventure that you cannot enjoy somewhere in the UK, and it boasts a wonderful range of scenery and splendour that other countries envy. Whether you like soaking up the south coast sun or marching up the Munros, theres plenty to give your credit card a short visit to a destination in the UK.
