It is a great idea to study up on the ins and outs of airport parking if your vacation or business trip requires you to leave your car at the airport. The security of both the airport and airport parking have increased in the aftermath of worldwide terrorist attacks.

Before you even consider leaving your house it is a good idea to call ahead and find out what the parking situation is like at your chosen airport. Finding out what requirements they have for use of their long-term parking, whether or not they have off-site parking facilities or whether there is a shuttle service will all help you to make the right choice for you. There are a lot of airport problems that stem from parking in the wrong place, these include: fines, having your car towed and a delay in boarding your flight due to increase search time.

Most airports employ three different types of parking, drop off, long-term and off site. Drop off parking is meant for minutes instead of hours and is just for the purpose of dropping someone off to catch a flight. This area is watched closely by security personnel that are specifically looking for abandoned or vacated cars.

Long-term parking is for passengers who are actually flying somewhere. Long-term parking is usually located somewhere on airport property but a safe distance from the actual terminal. There will probably be shuttle buses to convey you toward the terminal with your luggage so that you dont have to struggle with your bags, Most airports will charge you a fee for using the long-term parking facilities, many airports will charge you by the day. It is definitely worth your while to check these fees ahead of time so you avoid any unexpected charges upon your return.

The last option that is often available is that of off-site parking. This options is normally located in the same area as the airport and will have a regularly scheduled shuttle bus service to take you to the terminal. As with long-term parking, there will most likely be a fee for using these services, but the charges will be considerably lower than those at the airport. It is not normal for airport security to be patrolling off-site parking facilities, which may need to factor into your plans.

If you are traveling from city to city then there are many hotels that offer shuttles to and from their nearest airport. From many hotels this service is free if you are a guest. Lots of travelers find it relaxing not having to worry about how they are going to get to and from their hotel and book with these hotels for that very reason.

This information will come in handy next time you go on a business trip or vacation. Sorting your parking arrangements out in advance will help you to relax more as you approach your flight.
